Community First! Highland Falls edition

If you have seen any of our ads, heard our radio spots or seen our television ads running on TV, you have no doubt heard our slogan:  Wallkill Valley Federal Savings and Loan, banking that puts community first.    What does that really mean?  Well it’s simple.  We believe in the power of community.  We are very invested in the people and businesses in the communities we serve.  In our blogs this month, we are going to talk a bit about each of our branch locations.  First up is Highland Falls.

A few things to do and explore in Highland Falls:

Bear Mountain State Park
Hiking, Biking, Fishing, Ice Skating, X-Country Skiing and more are all there for you at Bear Mountain State Park!   The park also offers trailside museums and a zoo that features animals native to our area.  Spend a day in the park or plan an overnight get away at the Bear Mountain Inn which includes lodging, spa amenities and three dining options.

Harriman State Park
As the second-largest park in the New York State parks system, Harriman State Park covers a 74 square mile area with 31 lakes and reservoirs, 200 miles of hiking trails, beaches, public camping areas, scenic roads, and scores of wildlife species. The park's major facilities include Lakes Welch, Sebago, Tiorati and Silvermine, the Anthony Wayne Recreation Area, Sebago Cabins and Beaver Pond Campgrounds.

West Point
Forbes Magazine, the Princeton Review and US News and World Report magazine all agree that West Point is one of the top 10 colleges in the United States!  Forbes even cited West Point as the top college in New York State! Beyond education, it offers our community NCAA football excitement with the Army Black Knights.  West Point also offers culture and entertainment through the Thayer Hotel, West Point Museum and Eisenhower Hall Theatre.

But perhaps the best endorsement for Highland Falls came from our very own Branch Manager Jim DiSalvo!  Check out what he had to say about his beloved hometown:

“So most people would think that a small community can’t provide things that a big town or city would.  For example; being able to grow up, go to school locally, live, have a career and see your family expand all in the same little town that you started in.  I am living proof that this can and has happened. I started at Sacred Heart School in Highland Falls, moved on to John S. Burke in Goshen, (there were 10 of us at the time and we all took a van to go to school) then off to Orange County Community College and finally Mount Saint Mary College.  I have worked at Bear Mountain State Park, like my dad and uncles before me.  I have been able to secure a banking career at the very same place in Highland Falls were my grandma opened my first savings account.  Another great aspect about a small community is that I live less than a mile from where I work.  Highland Falls has provided most, if not everything for me.  There are opportunities and I learned so much from its great history and its interesting people.”

Highland Falls is only one of the communities we love to live & work in. At Wallkill Valley Federal Savings and Loan, we want to help each of our customers bank easier and smarter!   Stop by any one of our 4 branch locations and let us get to know you.  We would be happy to sit with you to find out more about your financial goals and make suggestions for the products and services that best fit your needs!
