Providing CPR/AED Training is an import part of creating those conditions. The statistics are staggering; according to The American Heart Association, less than 8 percent of people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of the hospital survive. If a properly trained bystander performs CPR immediately after sudden cardiac arrest, it can increase a victim’s chance of survival by 32 percent. On Tuesday September 29th, 2015, Wallkill Valley Federal Savings & Loan will host a CPR/AED training session for all their employees.
Wallkill Valley Federal Savings & Loan President & CEO, Michael Horodyski, and Debbie Pollard, the bank’s Wellness Program Coordinator, have worked throughout the year to establish health related initiatives in each of the branches. Together they have implemented an employee wellness reimbursement program, established a Tobacco Free Workplace, brought in a nutritionist, and held weight loss challenges. When asked about the new training being offered, Debbie Pollard replied “As the Wellness Coordinator at the bank, I feel CPR & AED training is important for employees to prepare and be able to react to certain situations or disasters. Additionally I feel it is important to encourage employees to follow a healthy lifestyle and to promote a wellness culture throughout the organization.” It seems this bank is doing just that, earlier this year they were awarded the Gold Achievement Award from The American Heart Association for creating a Fit-Friendly Worksite.
The training is being offered though Wallkill EMS & Safety Training. Owner, Joe Poptanich, will be providing the training. Joe is a non-active member of the Wallkill Ambulance Corps. In addition to the CPR & AED training he provides through Wallkill EMS & Safety Training, he teaches EMT classes for Mobile Life & Sullivan County Community College.
